Growing up, I wanted to be average.
I wanted to be like everyone else.
I wanted long, pretty highlights in my hair.
I was the only kid with divorced parents in a bedroom community outside NYC.
When we moved to the opposite side of the country, to LA,
Everyone’s parents were divorced, but we were not rich or famous.
This made me very shy and introverted.
I didn’t belong.
It hurt socially.
I spent a lot of time alone.
After I graduated from college and went to work in investment banking as an analyst.
I was the only woman who wasn’t an assistant in the LA office.
When I finally became a portfolio manager at a hedge fund, I was the only female.
None of this bothered me until I realized many years later:
These experiences made me lonely in my career and socially.
But I also learned there is tremendous value to being different.
A weakness can turn into a strength. Thank you Konstantin Fominykh, CFA

Kevin, who was the editor of Wired Magazine, talks about:
“It’s the lack of resources that innovation happens.
Solutions can’t be bought; they need to be invented.
Breakthroughs happen at the edges.
If a start-up doesn’t have any money, they are forced to invent the things
This is where the breakthrough happens.“
Being outside New York City and the inner circles has given me an advantage over the establishment. It forced me to figure out a solution to my problem.
Today I’m not lonely.
I have strong relationships with my clients.
And I have a thriving, growing practice serving, advising and investing women’s wealth so they can be more financially confident.
Take some downtime and figure out what makes you unique often times is a source of strength.
