Bear market made me run barefoot

Updated: Jul 29, 2022

My knee gets dislocated

- sometimes, when I’m walking or

- when I jerk around too quickly.

When my knee pops out of place,

- it swells up.

- I’m in so much pain.

- But worse, I can’t run for a few days, which is tragic.

Logically, I ask for advice from my doctor friends.

- They tell me to stop running or

- Get another knee surgery

But then I wonder, why do we have hip and knee injuries from running?

- Aren’t we humans meant to run?

- Weren’t we once hunters chasing and killing animals to eat?

- Weren’t we barefoot when we defended ourselves against bears?

I love my knee and want to make sure I figure out a way to make it stronger.

So I ran 5 ½ miles barefoot on Sunday.

Well, I went running in bright orange socks from Skyzone (photo at Westminster School)

I used and built muscles in my legs I didn't know I had.

It turns out running shoes make us land on our heels and pound our knees.

Now, I run more on the balls of my feet.

Doing something completely crazy helped me find a new balance.

- I was forced out of the comfortable soles of my shoes.

- Being bold and experimenting taught me that less is really more.

Less protection provided me the ability to build greater strength.

Making a choice and taking a risk is hard, but it can also help us feel more secure in our financial footing.

Bear markets are scary, but there are creative solutions to emotional and painful problems.

Throughout my career, I've been navigating ups and downs / good markets and bad markets.

I love investing and want to help you make better investment-related decisions.

How we live today helps us create a better future for ourselves.

Is the bear market scary, or just a better time to invest?
