During our recent family trip to Paris, I found myself reflecting deeply on the creative process of Picasso.Â
To understand his paintings, you have to understand the man…Â
To understand myself requires me peeling back the layers of my experiences with money...
After returning from spring break, my dear friend Jill Thornton invited me to speak at Sipping for Sight on Sunday, hosted by Prevent Blindness Georgia (PBGA). PBGA is a pivotal force in eye health, dedicated to preventing blindness and preserving sight across the state.Â
At the event, although I stumbled through some of my talk, forgetting punchlines and battling the acoustics, the authenticity and truth I shared resonated with many attendees.Â
Several women approached me afterward to express their appreciation.Â
Stepping out of my comfort zone has taught me the real game of money—not just as a financial advisor but in my personal journey from:Â
- managing candy money as a childÂ
- making the trade-offs with my allowance, prioritizing going out to lunch with my friends vs buying clothes
- living in a crappy apartment in Beverly Hills while my mother drove a Porsche
This moment was a reminder that sharing our stories, no matter how imperfect, can profoundly connect and inspire others to do the same.
The lessons learned from a childhood filled with contradictions but they have been a driver to my determination, as a necessity and a source of empowerment.
This might sound cliche, but your power comes from within by understanding the lessons we learned directly or indirectly in our youth.
Embracing challenges, getting out of your comfort zone, staying true to yourself, and managing your finances wisely to maintain your independence are the keys to financial empowerment.Â
Understanding yourself requires you to peel back the layers of your experiences with money. You might be surprised by what you learn!!
