We recently conducted a survey on LinkedIn about what holds people back from seeking professional #investment advice, and three themes emerged.
Myth #2 - I don’t know where to start
A large number of respondents said they have no idea where to start when it comes to developing a financial plan. Most people are afraid of running out of money even though they spend less than what they make, invest in their 401(k) plans, and are sitting on cash because they fear another 2008 financial crisis or another pandemic wave.
I’ll let you in on a secret: There’s no wrong place to start.
But don’t let your brain get in the way, and stop overthinking things. Stop focusing on the fear of losing money, because you’ll be missing out on opportunities to invest and make money.
Instead, focus on the future. What do you want, when do you want to retire, do you want to leave your job and start your own practice?
Start there, and let that guide your financial plan.
