Stress can help us refocus

We explored the Churchill war rooms, Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, British Museum, ate amazing Indian food and even ran into friend Lisa Blanco !

But Italy is so much better. We enjoyed Venice. It was relaxing and not as expensive. It was also rich in history, and it showed me how mistakes can turn something into a beautiful attraction.

Travel is exhausting, but it also brings some great times together. At dinner, girls recalled, when they were young, how stressed I was as a young mother. I was managing a lot of money at a hedge fund. Our strategy was short-term trading, and I always used my BlackBerry. The worst part was that the girls recalled what a mean mother I was - it hurt to hear, but they were right. I didn’t try to defend myself. But by me admitting to my mistakes as a mother and my shortcomings, I hope they learned moms and us parents make a lot of mistakes. We can admit to them - I hope it teaches them they, too, will make a lot of mistakes, and it’s ok. Innovation comes from making mistakes. Had I not been stressed at work, maybe I would have continued in my hedge fund career. But stress taught me that I had to make a change. It was a long journey, and I took a big risk.

It was fun to discover Burano Island and why they painted their houses bright colors. Legend says that fog made it difficult for the fishermen to find their homes. So, the wives did not want their men to end up in the wrong bed, so they painted their houses a unique color.

Had the fog not been an issue, this little village wouldn't be the tourist attraction it is today.

Sometimes, we need a little fog or stress to give us clarity and so that we can take a better long-term view and long-term investment focus.

Balanced and a better focus.
